Hotel

Orientation begins at 2pm on Friday, August 29. You are expected to be checked in at the hotel and downstairs at that time. Those who would like to get a cell phone or SIM card right away should meet downstairs at 11am to go together to get that taken care of. If you will be arriving in Rome before August 29, you may wish to reserve a room for yourself at this same hotel.

Hotel Piccolo

Via dei Due Macelli 47

For those arriving before August 29, other hotel suggestions can be found here.

Transportation from the airport

Rome has two airports: Leonardo da Vinci Airport in Fiumicino and a smaller airport in Ciampino. Unless you are traveling in Europe before the program, you will be arriving at Leonardo da Vinci (Fiumicino).

Loyola will be booking a private bus to bring Loyola students from Fiumicino airport to Italiaidea on Friday, August 29. Their flight arrives at 7.45. DePaul and CUA students arriving at the same time or earlier are welcome to join the Loyola students for only 10 euro. Be sure to let Dr. Vasquez know to expect you.

Airport shuttle

You may book a shuttle in advance to bring you from the airport to the hotel. You can find out more information at www.airportshuttle.it. They will be waiting for you with a little sign with your name on it.

Taxi

A taxi is the easiest (although more expensive) way to the hotel with your luggage. Do not accept a taxi ride from people approaching you in or outside the airport saying "taxi". These are unregulated and may charge you an enormous fee and could be just anyone. Instead, go outside and look for the line of white taxis waiting at the taxi stand. The fixed price into Rome for the legal taxis is 40 euro, luggage and tip included.

Train and Bus

If your luggage is very manageable and you want a budget-priced adventure, you can take the train from the airport and a bus to the hotel. In the airport, look for signs leading to the train station: it will say "FS". You will take one of the raised passageways across the street to the station. Purchase a ticket to Roma Termini (currently 11 euro). Stamp your ticket at the machines on the way to the train. Trains depart every half hour. When you get to Termini, purchase a 1 euro ticket at a newsstand (bigletto per l'autobus). Take the subway (Metro) A line in the direction of Battistini two stops to Barberini. Find the Via Tritone and walk down it to Via dei Due Macelli (on your right). Turn right and go down two blocks to number 47 (on the left).
